Obamacare, also known as the Affordable Care Act, was passed by President Obama in 2010. Its main aim is to provide affordable health insurance to Americans. To access the benefits of Obamacare, however, you need to sign up during a specific time known as the ‘open enrollment period’.

There are various plans to suit the different needs of a family versus an individual. As a result, the sign-up process can be overwhelming if you are doing it for the first time.

So, be sure to take some time to familiarize yourself with all aspects relating to Obamacare. Below we take a look at what it is, the rates, and how to sign up for Obamacare in Ohio.

About Obamacare In Ohio

Obamacare is Federal law with its main aim being to provide affordable healthcare – regardless of your household income.

In fact, if your household income is between 100% and 400% of the Federal Poverty Level, you may also qualify for premium tax credits or other subsidies which significantly lower your premium.

Another great initiative of Obamacare is that it mandates certain coverage. In other words, regardless of the plan, the Act obliges health insurance providers to provide cover for the following 10 categories:

  • Emergency services.
  • Hospitalization.
  • Preventative and wellness services and chronic disease management.
  • Pediatric services include oral and vision care (this is not included for adults).
  • Laboratory services.
  • Prescription drugs.
  • Pregnancy, maternity, and newborn care.
  •  Mental health and substance use disorder services.
  • Rehabilitative and habilitative services and devices.
  •  Ambulatory patient services.

Obamacare landed in Ohio soon after then-President Barack Obama signed it into law in 2010. Since then, it has helped thousands of Americans gain access to affordable healthcare.
